Lootbound: Change of Direction

Sometimes the most important step in development is admitting that something isn’t working the way it should.

Our first version of Lootbound didn’t reach the bar we set for ourselves. It was ambitious, packed with systems, and full of ideas but actually it lacked focus. Instead of creating meaningful decisions, it often buried them under complexity. That became impossible to ignore during our first Kickstarter attempt.

That moment forced us to stop and ask a difficult question are we trying to save what exists, or are we willing to rebuild what the game truly needs?

We chose the second option.

Rebuilding the Core

The most visible change is control.
Lootbound is no longer about managing an entire party directly. The player now controls a single Hero, while companions act autonomously as part of a broader system.Decisions are clearer, responsibility is more direct, and the outcome of each choice is easier to understand.

The map structure was rebuilt with the same philosophy.
Instead of wide, unfocused branching that encouraged wandering, Lootbound now follows a more directed path. Each route represents a real tradeoff, and every choice carries consequences that last until the end of the run.

Loot, too, was fundamentally reworked.
Items are no longer just numerical upgrades. Through auras and synergies, they shape how the entire party behaves and how a build comes together over time. The focus shifted from accumulation to interaction. From more stats to different outcomes.

Where We Are Now

The current version of Lootbound is the result of months of redesign and internal testing. It’s not final, but it is foundational. This is the version we believe in and the one we want players to experience.

Our focus now is on playtests and Steam Next Fest. Not as a victory lap, but as a way to validate the new direction with real players. We’re not asking for trust. We’re offering something playable.

Moving Forward

Lootbound’s purpose is clear now.
It’s a game for players who enjoy thinking through their decisions, taking risks, and owning the consequences win or lose.

This is the Lootbound we set out to make.
